Don Stewart
The Board of the Queensland Rugby Club (QRC) is pleased to announce the appointment of a new CEO to head up the Club as it proceeds into a new and exciting stage of its development. Don Stewart, a hospitality professional with more than 25 years experience in Australia and abroad, will step into the role on 27 July.
Don fills the position soon to be vacated by Kim Young who has been the Club's CEO since 1997.
The QRC's President, Chris McCluskey indicated that the QRC Board was delighted to be handing over the business operations of the Club to such a well qualified individual. "We undertook an extensive international executive search to find just the right person for the job and we believe we have found him in Don Stewart", he said. "His background includes a number of senior management positions with prestigious international hotels and he comes to us with excellent credentials."
Don's most recent role was with the Penrith Panthers Rugby League Club in Sydney where he was General Manager. He has also worked with international hoteliers such as the Conrad Hotel and Casino Group, Hilton International, Marriott International and the Mirvac Hotel Group, with a specialisation in food and beverage. He has extensive industry experience within Australia and has also worked in Canada, Indonesia and the United Kingdom.
Mr McCluskey said that whilst the QRC Board reluctantly accepted Kim's decision to leave the Club, the QRC understood his wish to seek new challenges after so many years at the helm. "We thank Kim for his great contribution and wish him well and at the same time, extend a warm welcome to Don. We know that the members will look forward to the opportunity of meeting him personally in the very near future."
