MEDIA RELEASE - EXCITING NEW RIVERFRONT VENUE FOR BRISBANE August 2008
The Queensland Rugby Club (QRC) in Brisbane is moving ahead with its $13 million transformation of a landmark riverside location into what will undoubtedly become one of the city's most spectacular banquet venues. The premises, to be known as Rugby Quay, will incorporate a signature restaurant, riverfront event centre and a private club.
The 500 square metre event centre, called The Strand at Rugby Quay, will seat up to 320 guests and will offer five star standard boutique-style dining and service matched by striking contemporary decor. The event centre will have the capability of being divided into two smaller venues, with a double width operable wall separating each room to ensure sound-proofing. Located at the former Michael's Restaurant site in the prestigious Riverside Centre in Eagle Street, the venue and its surrounding balconies will offer panoramic views of Brisbane's Story Bridge, the Kangaroo Point cliffs and the bustling Brisbane River.
The central location in the heart of the "Golden Triangle" business district of Brisbane's CBD will make it an ideal venue for business tourism social events. Located in close proximity to many of Brisbane's leading international hotels and directly adjacent to the main City Cat terminal, it will offer convenient access for visiting conference groups. River access will also be available for speedy and traffic-free transfers from other locations on or near the Brisbane River.
The Queensland Rugby Club Director of Sales & Marketing, Mr Bill Brassington said "We are delighted to see a long period of planning for this venue finally come to fruition. An extensive building programme and six month fit-out is currently underway to turn the former restaurant site into one of Brisbane's most attractive landmark venues." Mr Brassington said that he anticipated the Rugby Quay complex would be open for operations in the first quarter of 2009.
The Strand at Rugby Quay forms just part of the Rugby Quay complex which will include the exclusive Queensland Rugby Club on its upper level. A 150 seat signature restaurant to be called "Tempo at Rugby Quay" will also be located next door to The Strand at Rugby Quay. Again offering extensive river views, Tempo will feature both indoor and al fresco dining and will be open 7 days per week.
Depending upon availability, the Queensland Rugby Club facilities on the upper level may also be available for smaller more intimate functions and events.
